Snow Sledging is the perfect Winter Activity for the whole family. It’s so much fun for each family member and you can also bring your dog!
Some people cover up in blankets at home, when it’s snowing outside. Of course, huddling together and drinking warm tea or chocolate milk with marshmellows is one benefit of a cold winter time in Austria. But the other huge advantage of living in the alps during winter is doing all sorts of sports and outdoor activities, which you can do, due to the vicinity to the mountains.
There’s e.g. Ski Touring, Ice Skating on one of the beautiful lakes in Austria, Snowshoeing, Skiing and last, but not least Snow Sledging – which is in my opinion one of the funniest Winter Outdoor Activities for everyone to join!

Snow Sledging near Innsbruck
Basically you can Snow Sledge almost everywhere in Austria, where you’ll find Mountains in the Surrounding. One of our favourite route is in Maria Waldrast – which is 20 minutes away from Innsbruck (Tyrol’s capital) by car.
You leave your car on the parking lot at the end of the sledging route and start hiking up the mountain. After a 1 hour hike, you arrive at a great restaurant in a monastry run by monks. You can fill up your resources there with a traditional Austrian Beef Broth or various other Austrian Delicacies such as: a Variety of Dumplings, Wiener Schnitzerl or Cheese Spätzle.

The Advantages of this Snow Sledging Route at Maria Waldrast are the following:
- A seperate Hiking Route and Sledging Route to go down
- A great Restaurant at the top (after your hike, you’ll be hungry :D)
- The perfect mixture between sports and fun for the whole family (as the route is manageable for everyone)
