When in Innsbruck …

March 31, 2018

… do as the Tyrolean do.

Innsbruck, Tyrol’s Capital is the City of Sports. It’s Greg‘s Hometown, so we have the pleasure to visit this beautiful City in Austria quite often. I also lived here for 2 and a half years. The Mountains are so close to the City Centre, so you’ll see loads of people with Ski, Snowboards or Mountainbikes (depending on the Season) around town. That’s really funny, cause they run with Skiing Clothes and Skis on their Shoulders through the old town around all the Sightseeing Spots to catch their busses.

Nordkette

The massive NORDKETTE is emerging right behind the pretty PAINTED HOUSES next to the River Inn (a Must for Photographers). If you have a Weekend, I recommend going up the Nordkette by train. Here you can find all DETAILS on the NORDKETTENBAHN. Going up there is an Adventure on it’s own and the View from the Top is definitely worth it!

In case you have your skis with you, either go Ski Touring near Innsbruck or Skiing in Axamer Lizum (the closest Ski Slopes nearby). If you prefer Sledging or Hiking, that’s also great on Innsbruck’s surrounding hills.

After some Outdoor Activity in the Mountains, I suggest you chill at one of the Cafés of Maria Theresien Strasse. It’s best to watch the Sporty Scenery and Tyrolese Lifestyle there. You even have two great Book Stores around, where you can buy yourself some magazines. After resting a while, follow the Street to Herzog-Friedrich-Strasse, where at the end you’ll pop right into the most famous Sightseeing Spot of the Old Town – the Golden Roof of Innsbruck!

In front of the Golden Roof, there is most of the times a market (currently an Easter Market), where you can buy souvenirs or eat and drink local specialities. Close nearby is also the Ottoburg, in case you are interested in ancient buildings and castles.

When you’re already so close nearby, you definitely should take a Stroll along the River Inn. It’s beautiful for Pictures, especially when the Sun is out.

In case you are a Shopping Queen, the Kaufhaus Tyrol is the place to be in Innsbruck.

For some Good Food, there are plenty of restaurants around, depending on your gusto.
I name a few of my Faves below:

Enjoy your Stay!
